Unless you're living under a rock around here, you probably know that the guys from / !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! to the big time, well at least to a 3rd tier cable network. But don't take my cynicism as criticism. Lamentations of American programming for enthusiasts are unfortunately in abundance around these parts. Somewhere there was an NBC producer who saw the value of the excellent writing and production values of most of /Drive's work and decided to take it for spin on cable. The occasion for giving the guys a try was the Monaco Grand Prix. The "guys" are Mike Spinelli, Matt Farah, and Chris Harris.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

The show is, in a word, fantastic . As usual the writing and production values are top notch. Apparently network TV execs are starting to see this. Perhaps someday we'll see !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! on TV as well. In the case of /Drive, the viewer is given a feast for the eyes. The production value equals or surpasses anything available on VelocityTV or the former Speed Channel. This is Top Gear UK quality stuff, minus the funky filters TGUK uses. This is not a bad thing. The hosts are much, much, better than what is currently offered on TV for enthusiasts. While Jeremy Clarkson & Co. can be entertaining, they fall flat frequently on seriously looking at the machines they are driving. TGUK is far more concerned about keeping the audience entertained. /Drive caters to the enthusiast, but doesn't leave out some amazing vistas of their drive along the Route Napoleon.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Kinja'd!!!

Harris, Farah, and Spinelli take time to stop, soak in the views, but most importantly share their impressions of their rides. Oh and these are some rides. Chris Harris tantalizes the viewer with a lovely Ferrari F12 Berlinetta starting out in Maranello and driving up to Calais to meet the others. Matt Farah drives a somewhat gaudy Mercedes SLS Black . Mike Spinelli does his cruise in an orange McLaren 650S Spider . All of these cars are magnificent. You'll have to watch to see who has the "best" car, at least for the task at hand.

This show really is for you. The guys from /Drive even took some time to answer !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! from readers and it's pretty interesting to peruse. Perhaps our friend !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! asked the most important question: What do you drive?

!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! : 2013 Chevy Volt, 2008 Honda Odyssey EXL, 1988 Ford Mustang SSP, 1998 Corvette C5, 1983 Delorean, 2003 Aston Martin Vanquish

Kinja'd!!!

!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! : Right now, I have a 2000 MR2 Spyder that I expected to keep for a few months, and ended up hanging on to it for nine years. It's the perfect poverty sports car for those of us who subsist on the freelance hustle. Looking for the next toy, though. Any suggestions?

Kinja'd!!!

!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! : Er: B8 Audi S4, Mercedes E350 CDI, E28 M5, E30 M3, 512 TR, FF, Range Rover. Citroen 2CV, AX GT. That looks even more ridiculous written down.

Kinja'd!!!

These guys are the real deal. Of course that's something you probably already knew. Now it's time to search your listings, setup a season pass on your DVR and add to the enjoyment /Drive brings already on YouTube.

I wonder what this means for the swag wagon Matt owns. I think a turbo build for the fast shots, for the now professional camera crew, so they can keep up is necessary.

Well we don't need a camera guy... We only need the driver. The cameras are mounted using triangulation kits on the rear glass and bumper. They are fixed with super wide lenses, and don't require an operator except for the initial setup. All we need is a car that can take corners very quickly.

I just pray and hope that NBC will put all episode's in an app on the xbox360 platform and youtube as well. I have really enjoyed big muscle, and Matt Farah's car review's. Did Ferrari forgive Harris for his rant against Ferrari?

I have to say if Harris has a 512TR the man has great taste in cars. I would love to see an episode done on his 512TR. To me this is one of the most beautiful Ferrari's on the planet.

in Jeremy Clarkson defense he want to do more car content, the Producers are getting it in the neck from BBC Bean counters who look at the bottom line first. they have seven layer of mid management who read Jeremy treatment and say if it to expensive or not. Jeremy hate this but put up with it as he love his job, the BBC Executive like the SIARPC segement as they pay the bills it stay in.

Drive to survive had to go to television, and the TV executive wants something taking out then Drive has no choice but to edit it out that television worldwide.

I caught it this morning after watching the GP qually and enjoyed it.

I got to drive Monaco once while visiting Nice, and experienced the slow traffic. I tried to figure out how to follow the race circuit, but I'm not sure that it's really possible to do that when the course isn't set up. For example I think I was forced to drive through the tunnel in the reverse direction to the race, exiting rather than entering at the Portier end.

I'd love to find something which either showed how to do what I tried to do that day, or confirmed my suspicions that the normal traffic patterns are changed for the race.

I totally get what you mean about the Merc not feeling "special". I drove a pretty-new S-Class (S550 with an AMG sport pack, including wheels and brakes) for work today, and, excepting the size and perhaps a modicum of increased quietness, it didn't feel any more "special" than a C-class. As far as I could tell, the front seats (including the storage bins on the front of the seat) are right out of the volume cars, the fob the same as any other Benz (or older contemporary Daimler-Chrysler product), COMAND seemed as typically clever and confounding as usual, though with fewer buttons on the vertical dash, with the biggest differences to my untrained eye being the button to drop the rear headrests into the wells designed for them in the rear parcel shelf, and the audio system volume control being a fore-aft wheel within the COMAND control area instead of a rotary knob. Clearly this is a vehicle for the folks in the back, not the person in front.

I've had pretty good luck with it, myself, and they just generously rewarded me for four years of loyalty with a $20 gift card (oh boy!). The speeds could be better (they recently unlocked 45mbps here, though charter -ugh! - the only major competition here in my market only offers up to 30 for consumer accounts but up to 60 or 100 for business accounts), and they haven't jacked up the rates or anything, though I wish getting discounts and promos lasted longer or were more generous. I've never personally been a fan of Verizon, but I hear their landline/fiber division is much more admirable than their cellular, and aren't as evil as Comcast or TWC. Ideally, fios, google fiber, u-verse, and any other competitors would swarm all the markets and do like what T-Mobile has done to the wireless industry, that is, relegate contracts and stupidly-high monthly rates to the trash (though some still wish to overpay with other services or plans). It seems they want to do the opposite, offer each market only two or three decent competitors and a couple more smaller ones that are almost hysterically pathetic, to keep prices artificially high, yet shoot themselves in the feet when customers cancel TV packages to use internet streaming - legit or otherwise - as a primary means of entertainment (like what the music industry has been and is doing) .

Needs to be much longer, at least an hour, maybe even 90 minutes. Seemed harshly edited to give the quickest sound or visual bites that would fit in the very small time slots between the many commercials (I'm ok with commercials, they pay the bills, as they say, and I can skip them when the show is recorded on my DVR). We didn't get to know the cars as much as we could have, or understand how long the journey was for Mike and Matt (I would have chosen the McLaren as well, and not been happy about giving it back!), or the presenters, to the point where jokes being made - mostly about the gasoline consumption I believe - were only halfway grasped and mostly inferred. Then again, my expectations may have been colored by TG UK: Two trips (the Ferrari, Zonda, and Ford GT trip to the south of France, the Gallardo Superlaggera, Porsche 911 GT3 RS, and Aston Martin Vantage N24) came to mind as similar in scope and execution (with a little of a few others with the Chunnel train, most recently the GT500 football/soccer match), and, for better or worse, no "winner" being determined, though the three aren't exactly directly comparable. The episode took a lot for granted, that is, that the audience must be made up of car enthusiasts who already know who the presenters are, the cars at hand, and in this case, F1 in general and Monaco in particular, and while I'm familiar enough with all of these to find the episode enjoyable, I didn't get anything novel or new from it that makes TG UK so entertaining and authoritative (though I was pleasantly surprised to see and hear the 650S and not the now-discontinued 12C Spider; speaking of, was that the new orange color they just released for the 650S' launch? It looks great, but not as deep or pearlescent as the McLaren "Papaya" Orange (my favorite) or the Volcano Orange (also good, but not as McLaren-y).

TL;DR: More show, more personality shown (I watch TST, /Drive, etc., I know what I expect to see and have seen/heard before, please deliver), and keep up the good work. There's no reason this can't be among the three best automotive shows in the English world, that is, TG UK, Fifth Gear, and this)

Yeah right. Our only hope is that /Drive put it online, or someone makes a Torrent.

If its popular Sky might figure it out eventually and buy it. But even then they'll just remove it without any warning when the live coverage of the Dunedin girls high school 3rd tier lawn darts championship runs over time by 5 mins.

Liked the show, I'm sure things will only get better and more refined as time goes on too. The commercial breaks were a bit abrupt, and I gotta say I was shocked at the lack of chris harris drifting and matt farrah burnouts.

Seriously though, I felt the show was missing a bit of fun/humor, and something like farrah doing a burnout in the SLS and giggling like he does, or harris pulling off a long skid, would have given it that bit of extra something.

Along with that, I'd love a bit more engine sound and less background music.

Overall great work, keep it up guys, I had a few friends that weren't aware of youtube drive watching it and they enjoyed the show.

Compared to Farah, Chris Harris is a downright pauper. I respect him though because he does a good job of concealing it and not throwing it around.

I would do incredibly nasty things for your car. Yellow has to be the best colour for CTis, and with the Speedlines to boot...

How's maintenance been? I've always wanted a 205 - GTi, because sucker for publicity - but the idea of owning a car from the eighties as someone with fairly limited mechanical experience has always worried me a little. I mean, I know the idea is to learn as you go, but picking the right 'teacher' is important.

Glad y'all made it! TG US is nowhere as good as your YouTube channel. Gotta ask again: will you have access to Jay Leno's garage??

1) He discussed in one of his videos that this is where his retirement money is. He buys cars that won't depreciate (much) so he can at least enjoy the cash instead of letting it sit in a mutual fund somewhere. That's also why he changes out the exotics so often

Also the RR is pretty rough, and I'd guess the E350 probably looks and smells like an east german taxi cab by now. Citroen ownership may require a certain kind of insanity but not deep pockets.

I hope they're successful with the vimeo PPV thing. I'd pay a little bit just to get longer segments / higher value

eghh, I'm watching right now, not really all that impressed. TGUK without the funny or entertaining? At least TGUS is entertaining. The production value is there though.

I wanted to flesh out what I meant with the colored perceptions from TG UK that I was sort of looking for but am also glad weren't there or forced, e.g. Matt in the stripped-down hard-riding M-B BS like how James was in the N24 and greatly uncomfortable, Mike being the comedic "straight man" complete with long curly locks much like James may Chris and Matt being more likely to hoon like Richard and Jeremy

I caught it last night but fell asleep about halfway through. Don't take that the wrong way; I really liked what I saw. I was at Lime Rock all day and then was working on my deck until it started raining here early yesterday evening. I was exhausted.
